About me

Lizanne McGuinn

Licensed Social Worker & Therapist, MSW, M.Ed., LSW (she/her)

Finding the right therapist is personal. I hope to create a trusting relationship where you feel comfortable being yourself and exploring difficult experiences without judgment.

Most people arrive carrying something they have been managing alone — anxiety that won't settle, grief, a transition that has shifted the ground under them, or a slow loss of the life they expected. Many begin by telling me they should be able to handle this on their own. That belief is usually what brings them through the door.

I explore how past experiences shape our emotions, relationships, and sense of self. Often the patterns that trouble us today were once ways of getting by. Making sense of them alongside someone who stays curious and unhurried is where change tends to begin.

As a certified Kripalu yoga and meditation teacher, I bring an understanding of the mind-body connection. Stress and old wounds settle in the body as well as the mind, so when it feels right to you we can work with breath and bodily awareness alongside talk — never as a requirement, always as an option.

My hope is that this becomes a place where you can stop performing — where you feel comfortable being yourself, exactly as you are today, whatever your background or identity. From there, we look together for your own ways toward self-acceptance.

I believe healing happens in relationship. Being known by someone who stays present with you, without judgment, is often where it begins.

What working together looks like

Therapy moves at your pace

A first conversation

We start with a free 15-minute phone call. You can ask anything — how I work, what a session looks like, whether I'm the right fit — and decide without any pressure to begin.

Making sense of the pattern

In session, we follow your story rather than a script. I pay attention to how you learned to cope, what you carry from earlier relationships, and where those habits are costing you now.

Bringing the body in

Talk alone isn't always enough. When it feels right, we work with breath, movement and bodily awareness, and I use EMDR when a memory or a moment keeps intruding on the present.

Who I see

Individuals and couples

I work with adults and couples navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, burnout and the ordinary difficulties of being in a relationship. Much of my work is with people at a turning point — new parenthood, caregiving, menopause, a separation, or a career that has quietly become too heavy.

Some people come to me because something has cracked open. Others arrive with no single crisis, just a sense that life has become smaller than they wanted it to be. Both are good reasons to start.

Beyond the therapy room

Teaching yoga and meditation

I am also a yoga and meditation teacher, trained through the Kripalu Center and certified by Yoga Alliance. Teaching movement and stillness keeps me close to the part of this work that has nothing to do with words — the practice of noticing what is happening in your body and staying with it kindly.

I see clients as part of Eclipse Therapy Group.
