What to expect

Questions people ask first

If your question isn't here, ask me directly — a quick call answers most things faster than any page can.

What happens when I reach out?

We start with a free phone call. It is a chance for you to describe what brings you in and for me to answer your questions. If it sounds like a fit, we book a first session. If it doesn't, I'll try to point you somewhere better.

What is the first session like?

Mostly a conversation. I'll ask what brings you here now and something about your history, then we talk about what you'd like to be different. You don't have to tell me anything you're not ready to tell. Most people leave the first session saying it was easier than they expected.

How long is a session, and how often do we meet?

Sessions run about 45 to 50 minutes. Many people start weekly because that is where the work gathers momentum; others settle into every other week. We decide the rhythm together and can change it whenever life changes.

Do you take insurance?

No — I work privately and don't bill insurance directly. I can give you a superbill, an itemized receipt you can send to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement, and it usually works with a health savings account too. You can also ask for a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs before you start.

Can I see you online?

Yes. Online sessions are open to adults living in Pennsylvania, where I hold my license. In person, I work from the office on Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes, with a few exceptions I'd rather you know about now: imminent danger to yourself or someone else, suspected abuse of a child or an older adult, or a court order. Those are laid out in full on the privacy and policies page.

What if I need to cancel?

Life happens. Tell me as soon as you can and we'll find another time. I'd only ask for as much notice as you can give, so the hour isn't wasted.

How do I know if we're a good fit?

The first few sessions are a two-way assessment. You're allowed to change your mind, and you don't owe me an explanation. If I think someone else would serve you better, I'll say so and help you find them.

Do I need to prepare anything?

No. Come as you are. If it helps to jot down a few notes beforehand, bring them — but nothing is expected of you.

What if I'm in crisis?

The contact form isn't watched around the clock, so please don't use it for an emergency. Call or text 988, or dial 911. If you're already a client, I'll give you my after-hours instructions at your first session.

The finer print — privacy, confidentiality, online-session rules, and your rights around fees — lives on the Privacy & Policies page.
